Students progress will be evaluated at regular interval in gradings.
A new grade will reward successful students.
Gradings performed by visiting Japanese Karate masters occur twice yearly (generally in April and November).
In between, high ranking Irish Sensei (Instructors) can perform gradings if there are students ready to grade.
The technical requirements for each grade can be found in the
SKIF Syllabus.
There are nine grades or 'Kyu' before the black belt.
- Beginners start there (white belt)
- 9th Kyu (white belt)
- 8th Kyu (yellow belt)
- 7th Kyu (orange belt)
- 6th Kyu (green belt)
- 5th Kyu (blue belt)
- 4th Kyu (purple belt)
- 3rd Kyu (brown belt)
- 2nd Kyu (brown belt)
- 1st Kyu (brown belt)
- 1st Dan and over (black belt)
It generally takes four to five years to get a black belt (assuming that you train consistently).
We'll certainly do our best to help you getting a black belt. We have a long line of
success in the club.
